A slew of former Australian cricketers alongside former internationals across the globe are set to reunite for a three-match charity series in order to raise funds for the victims of the dreadful Australian bushfires. It is a Cricket Australia initiative, scheduled to commence on February 8.
Two of the shrewdest minds in the game perhaps – Shane Warne and Ricky Ponting – are set to lead their respective sides. Adam Gilchrist, Brett Lee, Justin Langer, Michael Clarke, and Shane Watson are a few of the legends taking part in the noble cause.
The bushfire in Australia, which was set ablaze in September, has been one of the most destructive calamities in mankind. Thousands of people and animals have lost their lives, alongside the death of the floral landscape. Many around the world have donated monetary resources for the victims, including Shane Warne, Chris Lynn, and Premier League club Brighton and Hove Albion’s Aussie goalkeeper Matt Ryan.
While Warne auctioned his prestigious Baggie Green, Lynn is understood to be donating a certain amount for every maximum he notches in the ongoing Big Bash. Meanwhile, Ryan this weekend, donated a sum of money for every single save made by a keeper in English football’s top-flight.
And now, Cricket Australia has come together as a committee by arranging a series between legends. CA’s CEO Kevin Roberts earlier announced, “The Bushfire Cricket Bash will be Cricket Australia’s major fundraising initiative to support Australians impacted by the recent unprecedented bushfire emergency.”
All the money raised in the charity games is scheduled to be donated to the Australian Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund – the organization in charge of the fulfillment of all affected.
According to reports from Sport, Warne has also urged the likes of Brian Lara and Sachin Tendulkar to participate and be a part of the charity outings.
Besides, there’s a lot of cricket to be anticipated when some of the finest cricketers take the field again.
