Australian spin sensation Shane Warne has claimed that a massive windfall is due from his former Indian Premier League side Rajasthan Royals, owing to a minuscule stake he received in the side back in his playing days.
As per reports from the Herald Sun, it’s understood that Warne would be granted 0.75 percent ownership of the Royals for every year he plays in the IPL for them.
Shane Warne, arguably the world’s greatest ever spinner, was known to have a wand of the wrist that could spin a cricket ball even on ice. With just over a remarkable 1,000 wickets for Australia, the wily spinner wrote his own folklore in the world of cricket, redefining the art and reach of what a wrist spinner could do.
He was a part of the Rajasthan Royals for four years before hanging up his boots. In that time, the genius spearheaded a young, inexperienced squad to the IPL crown in the inaugural edition of the league. All in all, he has 57 wickets at an economy of 7.27, alongside a deadly strike rate of 20.94.

Revisiting his marvelous first season with the Royals, Warne recollected, “We were the underdogs, we were the least favored, no one gave us a chance to win. It was the first-ever year of the IPL of franchise cricket where owners bought players and players went into auctions.”
The 50-year-old, aware of the many roles and responsibilities he had within the RR setup, cleared the air on his stake ownership. He added, “(It was) part of my deal because I had retired from international cricket and I came out (of retirement), they asked me to be captain, coach and run a cricket team the way I wanted to run it; I was the one-stop-shop.”
Warne, who seems to have heavily benefitted from this deal, further revealed the numbers. “Three percent of USD400 million is all right,” he concluded.
RR, who finished an underwhelming IPL 2019 on seventh place with just 11 points, will be vying to bolster their ranks ahead of the auction, set to commence on the 19th of this month, at Kolkata.
