3. Chris Jordan:
Chris Jordan has been kind of an underrated bowler in the T20 circuit and a major factor behind that is that he is someone who has gradually developed into a very potent threat from being one of the support cast bowlers from his earlier days.
Hence, his recent prominence can be said to not have been explored much by the franchises in general, which is evident by how he was sold off only for 3 crores INR despite a sizable number of teams requiring quality personnel in the fast-bowling department. However, with KXIP, he will play half of his league games in Mohali where the length of the boundaries is one of the biggest in India.
Accordingly, the variations that Jordan has had disposal could come out to be extremely handy especially in the late stages of the game when he would be primarily utilized to his maximum potential.
Jordan is someone whose IPL record has been very underwhelming, but 11 matches is a very small sample size to judge his present capabilities and talent. One can expect the Englishman to have a successful season with a plethora of dismissals to his name this time around. (Click next page)
2. Jasprit Bumrah:
Whether or not JaspritBumrah ends up as the highest wicket-taker of the upcoming season of the IPL is debatable, considering he would be tried to be dealt safely with by many teams considering him being a marquee player for the defending champions.
Bumrah presents such a peculiar case forward that the opposition ideally looks to not concede any wickets in his four overs by adopting a very pragmatic batting approach.
However, going by the sheer skill that he has under his sleeves, Bumrah might as well find a way to tackle this new challenge that he been put forth in front of him ever since his return from the long injury layoff in early January.
Also, Mumbai might play with Trent Boult and Lasith Malinga along with Bumrah; and this means that with a bowling attack so good, the adversaries would be left with little choice than taking on all the key bowlers and this could help Bumrah pile up his wickets’ tally. (Click next page)
1. Lungi Ngidi:
Lungi Ngidi was Chennai Super Kings’ most vital cog in the bowling unit when they won the IPL upon their return to the tournament in 2018.
The South African pacer was an unknown commodity of sorts back then, and by now most of the teams must be having bankable footage to decode the strengths that propelled him to success in that edition of the competition.
Ngidi has a very slithery bowling action and approach, which makes it difficult to judge the lines that he would deliver. That provides the lad an extra, incisive edge but he is bound to upstage his performances if he were to replicate his outings from 2018.
Back then, he played in seven matches and notched 11 dismissals for an economy rate of merely 6 RPO. If Ngidi manages to stay fit throughout the course of the upcoming season, he would arguably thrive whilst spearheading the bowling unit.
The track in Chennai could aid him in implementing his variations, the slower deliveries that often result in wickets for the pacer.
Most importantly, CSK will require his services because the implications of missing a quality international pacer were prevalent in certain phases of their run till the finals in 2019.
However, fitness and overall ability and availability to play throughout the course of the long and often tiresome IPL season would be critical for Ngidi’s possible success.
