T20 cricket has changed the expectations, the demands from players belonging to each category. It is visible in how 30+ scores are bestowed upon with a similar prestige as a 50+ runs innings in an ODI match. Similarly, it is naturally difficult for any player with the willow in his hands to harbor hopes of bagging a century in this version of the sport. However, over the course of the last 15 years, cricketers have remodeled their approach individually to achieve this coup too. Here, we look at five batsmen who can score their first-ever IPL centuries in the approaching edition of the Indian Premier League i.e. IPL 2020.
5. Shubman Gill:
Shubman Gill’s IPL career has not taken off as swiftly as he would have wanted over the course of the past two seasons; mainly because of KKR’s insistence of opening the batting with the duo of Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine.
However, with the Aussie being released from the team, Gill will now consistently attain an opportunity to play at the top of the order, a position where he is best suited to turn up.
Gill has a very ambiguous gameplay as in he has a classical technique to form the base of his more expansive, attacking style of play later on.
He is equally comfortable against the best of pacers and the spinners and is a player who has the temperament to bat throughout the course of the innings once he gets his eye in.
With the track at Eden Garden’s supplementing the ball to come on quickly off the surface, one can expect Gill to bag a century or a couple of such big scores in the upcoming season. (Click Next Page)
4. Aaron Finch:
Aaron Finch has had an underwhelming career in India’s premier tournament despite having represented a host of franchises in the past decade.
However, now he is in a laudable run of form and RCB presents him the opportunity to probably open the innings at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. So far, Finch has recorded an average of merely 26.31 in 75 IPL matches but that could probably change this time around.
A naturally expressive batsman right from the beginning, Finch is unforgiving to the best of pacers when he is in the groove. Moreover, he is an experienced leader, a calm head who knows what it takes to set the tone of the innings when he comes out to bat from the commencement of the innings.
The boundaries in Chinnaswamy would be very small, providing him a solid foundation to lay his innings upon. If the man can translate his heroics from T20s played elsewhere into the IPL, the Australian captain could be in for a peach of a campaign in the Indian summer of 2020. (Click Next Page)
