Former Pakistani all-rounder and captain Shahid Afridi broke the news on Twitter that he has got infected with the coronavirus. This is the first case in which a major name of the cricketing world has come under the claws of the Covid-19 disease.
Shahid Afridi shared the worrisome news on Twitter on Saturday, 13th June. He tweeted,
“I’ve been feeling unwell since Thursday; my body had been aching badly. I’ve been tested and unfortunately I’m covid positive. Need prayers for a speedy recovery, InshaAllah”

The 45-year old played for Pakistan from 1996 to 2008 and is still active in the T20 Leagues cricket such as Pakistan Super League (PSL). He played for Multan Sultans in PSL 2020 under the captainship of Shan Masood.
The right-hand batsman and the leg-spin bowler played for Pakistan in 27 Tests (1716 runs and 48 wickets), 398 ODIs (8064 runs and 395 wickets), 99 T20Is (1416 runs and 98 wickets).
Shahid Afridi is always seen in one or the other controversies. The constant Twitter fights with India’s left hand opening batsman and current politician Gautam Gambhir and the regular bad remarks against India and the Indian politics keeps him in the news.
Afridi is also active in charity works. Recently he had asked India’s former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh and off-spinner Harbhajan Singh to urge their fans to donate to his foundation.
After Afridi announced the news of his infection, many fans and well-wishers wished him a quick recovery and sent prayers and ‘get well soon’ wishes.
There were also some negative responses to the tweet owing to his controversial remarks against India on the Kashmir issue in the recent past.
Here are some of the most-interacted tweet responses.

Before Afridi, two other Pakistani cricketers Taufeeq Umar and Zafar Sarfaraz too had tested positive for the Covid-19 virus.
Umar successfully recovered from the disease earlier this month.
Scotland’s off-spin bowler Majid Haq and South Africa’s all-rounder Solo Nqweni are the other two cricketers to have got infected with the disease.
