Former West Indies pace bowler Ottis Gibson has been appointed as Bangladesh bowling coach for two years. He will replace former South African pacer Charles Langeveldt who resigned in Dec 2019 after serving the term for 5 months.
In a press release by BCB- Their CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury said Gibson’s inclusion will strengthen the coaching team: “He brings in tremendous experience and has coached or played all over the world. He has also had the opportunity to observe Bangladesh cricket from close. I am sure he will be a very valuable addition to the Bangladesh Team’s coaching group.”
Gibson who represented West Indies in 2 Tests & 15 ODIs, had a long coaching career since his retirement in 2007. He had two stints with England as bowling coach which included two Ashes wins in 2009 and 2015. Along with he served as West Indies head coach for 5 years. World T20 2014 win has been the highlight of his coaching career. And his last coaching assignment was as South Africa head coach which ended with South Africa’s group exit in World Cup 2019. After that entire South African coaching staff has been sacked. He also coached Cummila Warriors in BPL 2020.
Gibson’s first assignment with Bangladesh team will begin on the tour to Pakistan in which they are scheduled to play 3 T20Is, 1 ODI & 2 Tests. Tour will take place in two parts which are sandwiched by Pakistan Super League. Bangladesh team will depart on Wednesday to play for the T20 series & then the other leg of the tour will be played in April.
