Indian pace bowler, Jasprit Bumrah is coming back soon, albeit in nets, as he will be joining the team’s net session in Visakhapatnam, before the second ODI against West Indies. The net session would be crucial for Bumrah and the team management as it will help them gauge the progress of the rehab that Bumrah has been undergoing for the stress fracture he suffered on his back.
Speaking to IANS, sources said that Bumrah will bowl to the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and therefore, have a check on his back giving a fair idea to the training team led by Nitin Patel about his recovery.
“Bumrah will be joining the team at the nets in Vizag and his back will be tested as he goes full throttle against the world’s best batsmen like Kohli and Rohit. You can’t really have a better test than having a go against the best in business. As you are aware, the team management has been very particular about injury management and that is why this process has been put in place. It will be an interesting battle at the nets for sure,” the source said.
India, however, will be hosting Sri Lanka and Australia for the limited-overs series in January before heading to New Zealand for 2 tests, 3 ODIs and 5 T20I’s and that is where Team India would want the services of Bumrah the most.
Bumrah’s street smart brain, unique action and his ever-reliable death over bowling have made him an important asset to the team. The importance is such that Indian team management was happy to wait and try all possible ways to get Bumrah fit and ready and therefore, was sent to the UK for consultation.
“You can’t take chance with one of your best bowlers even though his body was on auto-heal mode. So, he was sent to the UK for consultation. We have an important tour of NZ coming up and he would surely be integral to the team’s plans there. Therefore, team management indeed was happy to wait and have him back at his best in time for the NZ tour” said the source.
So all eyes will be on the Bumrah’s net sessions. If the back passes the Test, it will be really good news for all the Team India fans.
