Jasprit Bumrah had a fantastic career as he made a massive dent in world cricket in the year 2018/19. With some wonderful performances in the ODI, T20I and especially in Test Cricket, he impressed the BCCI Annual Awards panel members and fittingly won the prestigious Polly Umrigar Award. The award is given to the best international cricketer every year. It was Virat Kohli who had won the award for the last four consecutive years (2014/15 to 2017/18).
Jasprit Bumrah made his ODI debut for India in January 2016 against Australia and Test debut in January 2018 on the South Africa tour and since then he has only improved. Several match-winning performances from Bumrah have helped Team India in maintaining their No.1 Test Rank in the world. Since the arrival of Bumrah in international cricket, India’s pace attack is considered one of the best in the world.
From 1 October 2018 to 30 September 2019, Bumrah took 34 Test wickets from 6 matches, 31 ODI wickets from 17 matches, 8 T20I wickets from 7 matches. Currently, Jasprit Bumrah is the World no.1 ODI bowler and World No.6 Test Bowler.
Jasprit Bumrah also won the Dilip Sardesai Award for the highest wickets in Test Cricket in the year 2018/19. Cheteshwar Pujara won the Dilip Sardesai Award for the highest run-getter in Test Cricket for the year.
Jasprit tweeted his feelings saying, “Grateful and honoured to be taking these two awards home tonight”.
