Lockie Ferguson had suffered a calf strain on the first day of the first Test against Australia. Today morning an MRI scan was done and it was confirmed that the injury is a bit severe and thus he will not be able to bowl for the rest of the first Test. However, he can bat.
It was the debut Test match for the New Zealand pacer. The Test match is being played at the Optus Stadium in Perth. The conditions yesterday were very hot around 38-39 degrees celsius. It was definitely tough for New Zealand to come and bowl first in these conditions, after losing the toss. Lockie Ferguson’s injury just before the Tea-break further added to the worries in the New Zealand camp.
INJURY UPDATE: An MRI scan has confirmed a right calf muscle-tendon strain for Lockie Ferguson which will prevent him bowling in the remainder of the 1st Test, although he is available to bat. Awaiting a further report which will inform the next steps of his recovery #AUSvNZ

The 28-year old pacer bowled only 11 overs in the match. He had come in the team in place of Trent Boult, who is also injured. Boult is currently recovering from the muscle strain injury in the ribs area.
On the first day, Australia scored 248/4 in 90 overs. Marnus Labuschange was the star of day one. He is batting on 110 runs from 202 balls. He hit 14 fours and one six in his innings so far. Travis Head is batting with him on 20 runs from 34 balls.
Earlier David Warner and Joe Burns opened the innings. Joe Burns was out on 9 runs after facing 42 deliveries, on the bowling of Colin de Grandhomme.
David Warner got out on 43 runs from 74 balls on the bowling of Neil Wagner. Wagner took a great catch on his own bowling to dismiss Warner.
Steve Smith later got out on 43 runs from 164 balls, again on the bowling of Neil Wagner. In the final session, Tim Southee bowled a beautiful delivery to dismiss the left-hander Matthew Wade. Matthew Wade decided to leave the ball, but the ball came swinging back in and rattled the stumps. He got out on 12 runs from 26 balls.
It will be interesting to see how New Zealand captain Kane Williamson will manage the workload of the bowlers in the uncomfortable heat in Perth and with one bowler short.
