Virat Kohli is a top-order right-hand batsman from India. He loves to bat at No.3 spot in limited-overs and No.4 spot in Test format. He dons jersey no.18 and plays with the MRF bat. This 5ft 9 inch intensely passionate cricketer first represented India in the 2008 Under-19 World Cup hosted by Malaysia. He rose to fame when he led India in this tournament eventually winning the World Cup trophy.
He later made his ODI debut for India on 18 August 2008 vs Sri Lanka at the age of 19. It was a five-match series in Sri Lanka. He scored 12, 54, 37, 25 and 31 runs in the five matches of his first ODI series. India had won that series 3-2. He played as a make-shift opener in the series, as India’s regular openers Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag were both injured.
He made his Test debut for India on 20 June 2011 on the West Indies tour in Kingston. He made 4 and 15 runs in the two innings of this first Test.
Virat Kohli was appointed as the full-time Test captain ahead of the fourth and final Test on the Australia tour when the then captain, MS Dhoni suddenly announced his retirement after the third Test due to the series defeat.
Under his captainship, India became the no.1 Test team and still is.
He is conferred with several prestigious awards so far in his career. He won three national awards: Arjuna Award in 2013, Padma Shri in 2017, and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna in 2018.
He was named as the ICC Cricketer of the Year (Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy) 2017 and 2018.
