N. Srinivasan, managing director of India Cements, which owns the Chennai Super Kings franchise sent a wave of happiness among the MS Dhoni fans after he assured that CSK will retain MS Dhoni for IPL 2021 season as well.
India’s former World Cup-winning captain MS Dhoni is constantly in the news these days over his retirement speculations. Recently, BCCI announced Team India’s annual contracts and MS Dhoni’s name was not on the list that further underlined the chances of Dhoni’s retirement.
MS Dhoni has not yet openly spoken about his retirement plans and many people are also thinking that IPL 2020 will be last year for MS Dhoni. But now with the statement made by N. Srinivasan, it seems Dhoni will remain in action at least till IPL 2021.
MS Dhoni has not played international cricket since the unfortunate exit of Team India from the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. The exit had come in the semi-final game against New Zealand. India were the top favorites to win the world cup and so the sadness which set after the semi-final exit was obvious.
N. Srinivasan was speaking at an Entrepreneurs’ Organization event in Chennai when he was asked about MS Dhoni. He said, “People keep saying when will he… how long will he play, etc. He will play. I can assure you. He will play this year. Next year he will go the auction; he will be retained there. So there is no doubt in anybody’s mind.”
MS Dhoni has been the most important pillar of Chennai Super Kings. The Super Kings have lifted the IPL title thrice (in 2010, 2011 and 2018) under the leadership of MS Dhoni, and have the best win percentage among all teams in the IPL (61.28). They hold the records of most appearances in the playoffs (ten) and the Final (eight) in the ten IPL seasons CSK played.
