2019 Mzansi Super League began on November 08, 2019. The first match was played between 2018 MSL winners Jozi Stars and Cape Town Blitz. Cape Town Blitz won this match by 15 runs. Jozi Stars, in fact, this year failed to win even a single match. Thus last year’s winners are at the bottom of the points table. 2019 Mzansi Super League Winners
Faf du Plessis-led Paarl Rocks won the second season of the Mzansi Super League by beating Heinrich Klaasen-led Tshwane Spartans in the final by 8 wickets. The final took place on December 16, 2019, at the Boland Park Stadium in Paarl, South Africa.
A quick summary of the Eliminator and the Final match is given later in the article.
2019 Mzansi Super League Points Table
The below table gives the final standings of all MSL teams in the points table.

As you can see above, Paarl Rocks are the table-toppers with 27 points, winning 6 matches out of 10.
Nelson Mandela Bay Giants, too have the same number of points but with slightly lower Net Run Rate (NRR) and thus, are a close second on the points table.
Tshwane Spartans are third on the points table, winning 3 matches out of 10, losing only 2 matches and 5 matches having no result.
The top three teams in the points table qualified for the playoff stage.

2019 Mzansi Super League Playoff Schedule and Results
There are only two playoff matches. One is eliminator and one is final. The team placed at the 1st position in the points table gets direct entry into the final to be played at Boland Park, Paarl.
And the teams placed second and third on the points table are scheduled to play the Eliminator. Winner will get to play in the 2019 MSL T20 final. Final as given below will take place on December 16, 2019, Monday.

Eliminator Match: Nelson Mandela Bay Giants vs Tshwane Spartans
On Friday, December 13, 2019, took place the Eliminator match between Number 2 and Number 3 teams on the points table. Second-placed Nelson Mandela Bay Giants took on third-placed Tshwane Spartans in what was a battle for the spot in the finals.
Heinrich Klaasen-led Tshwane Spartans beat JJ Smuts-led Nelson Mandela Bay Giants by 22 runs.
Toss (Eliminator):
Nelson Mandela Bay Giants won the toss and decided to bowl first.
Tshwane Spartans Batting (Eliminator-1st innings):
Batting first, Tshwane Spartans made 166/4 in 20 overs.
They had a slow start and also lost their opener, Dean Elgar, in the 4th over. Elgar made 14 runs from 14 balls.
Next came, AB de Villiers to bat. He tried to accelerate the inning and scored four boundaries, before getting out on 27 runs from 15 balls. Mthiwekhaya Nabe took his wicket, as JJ Smuts took the catch.
Next batsman captain and wicket-keeper Heinrich Klassen and the other opener Tony de Zorzi again played a bit slowly. Akhona Mnyaka finally took the wicket of Klassen who scored 9 runs from 11 balls.
Tony de Zorzi soon joined Klassen in the dressing room, as he got out on 26 runs from 27 balls. At that time, Tshwane Spartans scoreboard read 79/4 in 11.2 overs.
Spartans looked in some trouble, but thanks to Petrus van Biljon and David Wiese who played some greats shots and brought the Spartans back into the game.
Petrus van Biljoun scored not-out 48 runs from 32 balls, hitting 5 fours and 1 six and David Wiese scored not-out 31 runs from 23 balls, hitting 3 fours and 1 six. Thus Spartans managed to reach a respectable total of 166/4 in 20 overs.
Nelson Mandela Bay Giants batting (Eliminator-2nd innings):
In reply, Nelson Mandela Bay Giants were always on the back foot throughout the match. First, they lost the two wickets in 5.1 overs for 33 runs.
David Wiese took the wicket of opener Matthew Breetzke 8 runs(12 balls) and bowler Corbin Bosch sent the Giants captain JJ Smuts packing on 3 runs from 4 balls.
The other opener-wicket-keeper Ben Dunk, however, was playing quite well. But to his bad luck, he got run out on 35 runs from 22 balls. He hit 4 fours and 1 six in his innings.
The next few batsmen Heino Kuhn 5(8), Ryan ten Doeschate 26(25) and Marco Marais 11(13) could not contribute much and got out leaving the Giants struggling on 107/6 in 15.4 overs.
Chris Morris, however, played some spectacular cricket hitting many sixes and fours towards the end.
However, he could not be on strike for the first few balls of the second-last over and thus they had a mountain to climb in the final over.
They needed 28 runs from 6 balls. Morris was on strike in the final over.
Morris has no choice but to hit the ball hard into the stands, but he failed.
On the very first itself Morris mistimed the shot and gave an easy catch to Dean Elgar at the deep mid-wicket boundary line. Morris got out on well-fought 42 runs from 23 balls, hitting 3 fours and 3 sixes.
Nandre Burger who managed to change the strike too got out on the very next ball while trying to go big and gave a catch to Imran Manack in the deep covers region.
And thus David Wiese was on a hat-trick.
Next batsmen too hit an aerial shot but ball landed in the no-mans region and Wiese missed the hat-trick.
In 20 overs, Nelson Mandela Bay Giants could score only 144/8 and lost the match by 22 runs.
David Wiese took 3 wickets for 30 runs in 4 overs and Morne Morkel took 2 for 22 runs in 4 overs.
Tshwane Spartans’ David Wiese was given the man of the match award for his all-round performance of not-out 31 runs from 23 balls and 3/30 in 4 overs.
Now the Spartans will face Paarl Rocks in the final on December 16, 2019, Monday.
Final Match: Paarl Rocks vs Tshwane Spartans
On December 16, 2019, Monday, MSL 2019 final took place in Paarl.
Faf du Plessis-led Paarl Rocks beat Heinrich Klassen-led Tshwane Spartans by 8 wickets (with 34 balls remaining) and became thus became the MSL 2019 champions.
Toss (Final):
Paarl Rocks won the toss and decided to field first.
Tshwane Spartans batting (Final-1st Innings):
Batting first, Tshwane Spartans made 147/6 in 20 overs.
Tshwane Spartans lost their opener, Tony de Zorzi, in the third over when the score was 14 runs. Isuru Udana clean bowled him for 5 runs from 8 balls.
Then the other opener Dean Elgar and new batsman on crease AB de Villiers tried to build a good partnership. But the boundaries were hard to find. Faf du Plessis rotated his bowlers quite well and did not allow the batsmen to score freely.
Dean Elgar out of frustration tried to go big on the bowling of Tabraiz Shamsi, but could not time the ball and Bjorn Fortuin took a great catch while tumbling down. Shamsi did his magic celebration turning the dark pink cloth into a long stick. Dean Elgar made 22 runs from 22 balls, hitting only two fours. Tshwane Spartans were 55/2 in 7.3 overs at that stage.
Then captain Heinrich Klassen and de Villiers tried to increase the tempo. Klassen made 21 runs from 19 balls, hitting 2 fours. The scoreboard was 91/3 in 12.3 overs.
AB de Villiers completed his fifty runs but soon got out while a scoop shot in the fine leg. He could not connect the bat to the ball and the ball hit the stumps. And Isuru Udana took his second wicket of the match. AB de Villiers made 51 runs from 37 balls, hitting 3 fours and 1 six. The scoreboard showed 121/4 in 16.2 overs at that stage.
In the end, Tshwane Spartans managed to score 147/6 in 20 overs. Isuru Udana took two wickets giving 24 runs in 4 overs. And Tabraiz Shamsi too took 2 wickets for 29 runs in 4 overs. Paarl Rocks seemed quite happy with their bowling performance.
Paarl Rocks batting (Final- 2nd innings):
In reply, Paarl Rocks had a fantastic start. Opener Henry David hit 6 fours and 1 six in the first 18 balls he faced that took the score to 40/0 in 4.2 overs itself.
Henry Davids was playing some stylish shots all around the ground. His timing and decision making were simply great. Henry Davids completed his fifty (53 runs) in just 22 balls with a six. It became the fastest fifty of the MSL 2019.
Klassen used five different bowlers for the first five overs and none of them was bothering Davids in any way.
In the first 6 overs, Paarl Rocks made 72/0 and were batting at the run-rate of 11+ runs per over and were cruising towards the championship title.
Finally, David Wiese was given the first break-through, as he clean bowled Cameron Delport on a slower one. Delport made 18 runs from 18 balls. He gave good support to his hard-hitting partner Henry Davids. Paarl Rocks were 82/1 in 8.1 overs.
There were two catch drops around the time which could have brought the Spartans back into the match, but it was not their day.
However, the next batsmen Dwaine Pretorius was in a great mood on the final night and put on a firework show for the Paarl Rocks fans in the stadium.
He made hit 1 four and 4 sixes before getting caught out on the boundary line on the bowling of Imran Manack. He made 43 runs from 21 balls.
Paarl Rocks were in touching distance of the win when Pretorius got out.
They needed 12 runs from 39 balls around that stage.
Captain Faf du Plessis now had joined Henry Davids on the crease.
And finally, du Plessis hit the winning run and Paarl Rocks won the Mzansi Super League 2019 final by 8 wickets with 34 balls remaining.
And thus MSL got its new champions, Paarl Rocks, in the company of the jubilant home crowd.
The champion team did a victory lap on the ground and thanked the fans for coming and shared the joy of the win with them. Many players got emotional and described how special it was to win the MSL 2019 final.
Henry Davids won the player of the match award for his 77* runs from 44 balls, hitting 8 fours and 4 sixes.
