GT20 2019 Final Match Quick Results Summary:
In a span of one month, cricket fans witnessed two thrilling finals which got tied and went to super-overs.
The super-over of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 was still fresh in mind when Global T20 Canada 2019 final match also went to super-over.
Vancouver Knights won the toss and elected to bowl first. They did the same thing in last year’s final too. But this time they could not become the champions.
Winnipeg Hawks Batting
Batting first, Winnipeg Hawks made 192/8 in 20 overs, thanks to the great opening partnership between Chris Lynn (37 runs from 21 balls ) and Shaiman Anwar (90 runs from 45 balls).
JP Duminy then took the scoreboard ahead with 33 runs from 27 balls. Duminy played well throughout the tournament and made some important contributions from time to time and the final was no different.
Andre Russell from Vancouver Knights bowled exceptionally well and took 4 wickets giving just 29 runs in 4 overs in this high-scoring final.
Vancouver Knights Batting
In reply, Vancouver Knights had a really bad start. Both their openers Chadwick Walton (1 from 3 balls) and Tobias Visee(0 from 6 balls) got out early and the scoreboard showed 2/2.
After that start, Rassie van der Dussen (23 runs from 22 balls) and Daniel Sams (21 runs from 9 balls) stabilized the innings a bit.
However, it was the captain Shoaib Malik who with his superb 64-run knock from 36 balls revived the match. Then came last year’s ‘Man of the match’ winner in the Final, Saad Bin Zafar, who helped steer the inning with his 27 runs from 26 balls. He gave good company to the amazing Andre Russell who took the match to another level with his 46 runs from just 20 balls. He hit 3 fours and 5 sixes.
At one point, Vancouver Knights needed 51 runs from just 15 balls. And then Andre Russell literally pulled the match out from the graves, breathed life into it and took it to 3 runs from 1 ball situation.
But unfortunately, when they needed 3 runs from 1 ball, they could manage only two and the match was tied. It was now time for the Super Over.
Super Over
Vancouver Knights had bowled first in the match. So in the Super Over, they had to bat first.
Vancouver Knights Batting (Super Over 1st Inning)
In came Andre Russell and Rassie Van der Dussen as the two batsmen from the Knights. Kaleem Sana was bowler from the Hawks.
The first ball, Russell hit a six.
The next two balls they ran one run each.
Then on the fourth ball, Russell got out.
Next batsman was captain Shoaib Malik. On the fifth ball, he managed to run only one run. Actually, it was a full-toss ball which went above waist height straight to the keeper. But the leg umpire did not call it no-ball. Thus it was a slightly controversial decision.
And on the last ball, Rassie van der Dussen gave a catch and got out.
Thus at the end of the super over, Vancouver Knights score was 9/2.
Winnipeg Hawks Batting (Super Over 2nd Inning)
In reply, Winnipeg Hawks sent Chris Lynn and Shaiman Anwar as batsmen. Andre Russell was the bowler for the Hawks.
They scored one run each on the first two balls.
On the third ball, Chris Lynn missed the shot and ball went to wicket-keeper, but he too missed and the ball went to the boundary. Clearly, it was a frustrating moment for Andre Russell, who was doing everything he could to win the match.
On the fourth ball, ball edged off Lynn’s bat and then went towards third man area for four runs.
Thus the Hawks made 10/0 in 0.4 over and won the GT20 Canada 2019 final.
Shaiman Anwar was awarded the Man of the Match award.
JP Duminy was awarded the Most Valuable Player award.
So we saw the Global T20 Canada 2019 points table, all match results, top performers and final match summary. We feel the tournament is slowly gaining popularity in Canada and around the world. It was a great tournament which ended with a match to remember and gave birth to some new stars in world cricket.
