A total of 439 foreign stars from 22 nations gave their names to play in the BPL 2019/20 which shows how popular this league is in the world. Bangladesh cricket board has made compulsory that there should be one overseas fast bowler who can bowl 140+ clicks and one leg spinner in every team.
Also, the board has asked each team to have an overseas coach, physiotherapist, and trainer. And local coaches are expected to assist these overseas head coaches. BCB hopes this will help local talents to learn from the best in the businesses and thus improve overall cricket standards in the country.
This edition of BPL will be called ‘Bangabandhu BPL’ to pay homage to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, also fondly known as Bangabandhu (Friend of Bengal), on his 100th birth anniversary in 2020. He was the first President of Bangladesh and then also served as Prime Minister of the country. He was instrumental in Bangladesh Liberation Movement.
